An Infinite Horizon of Possibilities

Through veiny trees and natural landscapes, this project evokes feelings of loneliness and uncertainty while exploring our relationship with time, distance, and possibilities.

The distance between two people, be it physical or emotional, awakens feelings that are not always easy to navigate. The more time passes by, the more difficult it is to maintain that relationship.

Faced with this, we must embrace uncertainty to traverse the vast ocean of possibilities that exist as long as there is life.

The motivation to develop this theme is a process of changes that began at the end of 2018 —a period that coincides with the first and only archive/file photo in the series. The physical separation with my mother has been extended indefinitely by external events and several important people have left my life.

With the pandemic and isolation, similar sentiments are playing out on a global scale as we face a drastic new normal.

The photographs show elements of nature —such as bodies of water, branches, or birds— in different contexts. These intend to evoke feelings of loneliness and nostalgia, as well as to represent the ramifications that our life may take in the future.

The project aims to make those feelings tangible though approaching the subject with a light of hope. Moving forward, I am planning to transfer these images into a small edition of handmade photobooks and continue exploring the relationship between time, distance, and possibilities.

I wish that anyone experiencing loss or facing uncertainty can feel identified and face the future with a little more optimism.

distance multiplies with each step,
and time is distorted like a stretched rubber band
Against the infinite horizon of the forest,
memories settle in the back seat,
and possibilities begin to bloom
